Dennis
Miller Live
first appearance.
March 2000

Tom's first appearance
on Dennis Miller Live. A "Live" 30 min talk show/Dennis Millers
old weekend update schtick from Saturday Night Live (which is cool). Its
live on HBO, and usually shown the following week on the Comedy Network
in Canada. The shows have theme's, and the show Tom was on was themed
"Revenge". The interview went well, Dennis thought Tom was wired..
and commented that his eyes looked like Ban Roll on applicators. The show
also has a live Call in aspect to it. Tom wanted to help Dennis out with
the cost of phone calls, so he brought out his own personal cell phone
and gave the number out on national live television. Someone did call
Tom a minute later, making his cell phone ring a pleasent jingle that
irrated Dennis. Tom answered, and had a short conversation with the guy..
Dennis told him it "wasnt working" since no one else could hear
the conversation between Tom and the caller.

Dennis mentions that
he has seen some comics do the wide eyed crazy look before, but he feels
that Tom's look is the real deal. Smacking his head because he messed
up the phone call segment, and because he accidently took Dennis Millers
airline bags months prior, Tom felt bad. Dennis told him to keep smacking
his head 'cause it was funny. Tom was off on his own material and ignored
Dennis. The two also talked about the Racoon incident on Open
Mike with Mike Bullard
Dennis and Tom both
talked about the show without saying Mike Bullard.. which I found a bit
cheeky. At least give the guy a plug Tom.. he had you on his show when
you were just starting out.

Finally, after Dennis wonders what's inside the bag that Tom brought with
him (thinking it was a dead animal..) Tom produces a picture of Kris Brown,
a writer on Tom's MTV show. He says that if you ever see this guy in Wisonsin..
just FUCK HIM UP. Tom and Dennis both take turns kicking the shit
out of the bag of feathers.. as well as calling the bag a mother fucker.

The
Martin Short Show
first appearance.
February 2000

Tom was on the Martin
Short Show. Yes the man who gave us Ed Grimley and Jackie Rogers Jr now
has his own Talk show, and no offence to him or anything, but I would
never watch the show. Its on at an ungodly hour (9am), and most of the
humor made me feel embarrassed. I hate feeling like that. On to the show
however; Steve Martin was a guest , and they were only one man short of
having a "3 Amigos" reunion.. Chevy Chase!

Yes Ned Nederlander (Short), and Lucky Day (Martin) were
in fine form, talking about days gone by and having many a laugh. Seemed
like they talked about too many inside type joke stories. Hey, share with
the audience guys. While introducing Tom, Ned Nederlander of course mentioned
the Monica Lewinksy situation.. I was suprised that people were still
obsessed with her. Anyway, Ned made an oral sex joke.. saying he hadn’t
seen the one hour special, but he heard it was getting great word of mouth.
Nice. Is this the same man who played Robin Williams obsessed with Tang
in that classic SCTV sketch?. Tom was introduced as "hip", and "cutting
edge". Tom was nervous, I would be too. I grew up watching these guys..
Tom stated he was sitting in between the Jerk, and Ed Grimley.

Tom laughed alot during his interview. He doesnt do this all the time,
only when he finds something actually funny. If you are talking with him
in person and telling him something "funny" and he laughs, you did well.
If he smiles and looks at the girl with large breasts beside you.. you
didnt do that well. Tom had his share of embarrassments as well. Some
of the things he did on the show didnt work out that well. The bacon on
the face thing didnt do as well as he hoped it would, it was an awkward
moment for me as well.. but he did get some laughs. He also pretended
to be a robot with the cardboard box he brought the bacon in. Tom knew
it didnt "kill".

Martin Short and Steve both stated they really loved Toms segments involving
his parents; and were genuinely interested in the information Tom had
to say about them. They talked alot about Monica Lewinsky, again.. people
are still obsessed with her. Tom gave Martin a handbag that Monica made,
Steve was sad he didnt get one. Martin asked about different pranks he
has pulled on his parents.. including the plaid house, a segment I have
never heard of (but sounds great) involving Tom spreading his grandfathers
ashes in inappropriate places .. ie in side womens underwear, and "turning
your fathers van into a slut mobile by airbrushing a lesbian love scene
on the side". We Tom Green Show fans know this is slightly wrong, but
Tom didnt bother to correct Martin. He just wanted to move along.. oh
and Tom mentioned Canada alot, he is a proud Canadian.. stop flaming him
already
.
When
Martin Short asked Tom where he gets his ideas for his "counter culture
type humor", Tom explained he never thought of the show as a comedy show..
just of him goofing off with a video camera. Steve Martin offered he was
from "another generation of comedy". Yes.
Tom told a story about a time when he was 10 years old and his grandmother
was visiting. He took blue food coloring and water and put it into a windex
bottle. He drank it in front of her, and his grandmother freaked out..
saying "you are gonna die, that has ammonia D in it!" He didnt die, but
got a certain amount of joy out of seeing her reaction. And finally, HOLY
CRAP, yet another DEREK HARVIE SIGHTING.
