The Late Show with David Letterman
first appearance. February 1999

So here is Tom, with his boyhood and professional idol David Letterman. Nervous? thats an understatement. It was not only his first appearance on network television (well besides the mtv show) but it was also basically a dream come true for Tom. They talked about the shows roots.. Tom mentioned coming from cable access in Ottawa, then they got picked up by "a network" in Canada, and then mtv brought them down to the states.. I dont know, they did spend almost 2 and a half years with the comedy network.. I guess for some legal reasons Tom cant mention the network or the good times he had there.. or possibly MTV wants to claim "they made" tom, and dont want anyone to think he was something somewhere else before. Thats idiotic since one of the hottest things sold on ebay are Canadian episodes to the Americans.. so obviously everyone knows whats up. BACK ON TRACK.

Tom covered his mouth alot with his hand, a sign of nervousness. Toms just a silly kid, and he had to prove himself on tv, he did well considering. Letterman is as big as you can get (leno isnt even an issue)... if you make it on Letterman, its all good. Dave made fun of Tom a few times for saying "Hotel" wrong.. must be a "Canadian accent" thing. Tom brought a clip and set it up.. but told Dave he didnt want to screw up, dave told him it was too late for that. I read in rolling stone that Tom wouldve liked to have been invited back to the show, and usually when Letterman like someone he says that at the end of the interview.

Dave just forgot Tom, you'll be invited back.. you'll see

Regis and Kathie Lee (or Bernadette Peters)
first appearance. March 99

This was a pretty funny appearance for Tom.. funny compared to either American or Canadian appearances.. Tom was relaxed, maybe because he was decked out in a suit of armor if you will. Regis wasnt too pleased that Tom was trying out his new suit for a future bit on the Tom Green show on his show. Kathie lee was off breast feeding codie (or something), so special guest host Bernadette Peters was on. My mom seems to know who she is, but I dont. She was in a play in NYC with Tom "Duke" Wopat. Tom and her discussed the other Toms appearance on a recent MTV show. Tom (green) asked if Regis or Bernadette wanted to attend an upcoming mtv taping.. they declined, but Tom bugged them some more throughout the show. They discussed Tom harassing his parents, painting the house plaid (even though no one in America had seen this segment yet), I believe they showed the animal crackers segment.. But I most probably am wrong. Tom fell out of his seat at one point (hey those seats dont look easy to sit in) and stuck his ass up in the air.. and asked Reeege to hit his "bum bum". I think this is where the whole bum bum song thing originated. Later Tom went out into the street and started whacking his head with a bat (with the protective helmet on of course)

Oprah Winfrow
first appearance. May 99

Well this segment was reported on the official site, but the actual date wasnt confirmed.. it was supposed to air on a Friday, but ended up airing on a Monday. Oprah, Tom and his parents all discuss Tom's show and Toms upbringing (Etc). They talk about the pranks Tom has been pulling on them since his days in Radio (Midnight caller, night fall ..) Later, Tom gives his parents a cruise to someplace warm (Tahiti) for putting up with his shit for all these years. He also gives them new locks for the doors to their house in Ottawa. Actually this was a mothers day special. He made his second television appearance with his parents (first was the Camilla Scott show a year earlier

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart
first appearance. September 1999

The first show to air in Canada of the Daily show (shown on the Comedy Network) marked strangely enough by a Tom Green appearance! Tom was really relaxed this time.. acted natural (I thought). He was dressed as the infamous Hockey guy, with a cool Senators jersey.. that he later gave to Jon Stewart. Jon Stewart is a good guy, I was a fan of his original "The Jon Stewart show", and have a few episodes on tape.. back on track. Tom talked about bacon, and the fact that Canadian bacon is really just ham in Canada, but in the states its Canadian Bacon. Well I for one have tried Canadian bacon at my cottage in Canada.. and I dont like it. It has this crap on the sides of it, and the stuff Tom had on the show didnt look like what I had to eat. Ill stick with normal bacon.

The two talked about the show, and the fact Tom does horrible things to piss his parents off.. they talked about the nude bronze statues that Tom put on his parents lawn for an MTV bit. Jon thought they were having anal sex, and that his parents get pissed if he doesnt call him on a birthday.. or send a card. Who knows what would happen to him if he tried to pull some of the shit Tom does to his parents. As I said.. the interview went well, and at the end Jon thanked Tom for coming and for being so huge.. check out the above right picture. Tom is HUGE

Late Late show with Craig Kilborn
second appearance. November 1999

Tom made his 2nd appearance on the Late Late show with Craig Kilborn, and as an added bonus, Toms parents made their 3rd talk show appearance ever that very same night. He entered dressed as a bird with feathers and tinfoil wrapped around various parts of his body. A small fishtank was also brought, and Tom dove into it and held his breath for a whopping 28 seconds. Toms parents were in the audience and were invited to play a game of questions about Canada called "All aboot Canada". If they get 5 right, they win a late late show tshirt. Tom answered most of the questions on his own, but had the option to use his parents for help as well. Questions included: What are Canadas 2 national symbols: beaver, and maple leaf , What childrens story book character was named after Winnipeg: Winnie the Pooh, Name the Canadian game show host whose name rhymes with Quebec: Alex Trebec ,What hockey arena was built by Conn Smythe in 1921: Maple Leaf Gardens, Which of these Canadian funny men are funnier than your son (tom): dan akroyd , martin short, mike myers , john candy: all of them Name the top Canadian recording artist of the 1980s.. he has bad skin.. Bryan Adams, What Canadian politician lost his arm to a flesh eating disease.. Lucien "Im not in the mood to joke" Buchard! Tom corrects Craig by saying "it was his leg!". Toms parents got 8, and thus won the T-shirts.

After the break, Tom tried to beat his 28 second dive record, and ended up getting well over 40 seconds before the show ended (He might still be going for all we know..)

Late Late show with Craig Kilborn
third appearance. February 2000

Well last night at around 1246am I got a Tom Green newsletter from Glenn Humplik, it said.. "Last minute thing just came up, Tom will be appearing as a guest on Craig Kilborn tonight (Wednesday), check it out at 12:30 p.m." I flipped on the tele just in time to catch the segment. Good timing. Alot of people missed out on this appearance, but no one is to blame. Tom was dressed as a bear, and spent most of his segment time talking about bear survival tips such as; dont stand between a bear cub and its mother, you can scare bears away by banging pots and pans together, and since a bears heart rate is slow, you can shoot it.. but it will still eat you.

Bears are also fast, you couldnt out run one. Tom was asked about the recent Monica Lewinsky rumor (that her and tom are dating). Tom decided not to comment, and to make an angry face. The topic changed quickly, and Tom ran over to his kareoke machine to perform a charming rendition of Whitney Houston's retro hit "I wanna dance with somebody". Click on it to hear the marvels of real audio technology.
